The rise of consumer and commercial drones has been amazing. Opportunities abound for agriculture, delivery, inspection, and even drone racing. But with these new opportunities have come new threats and new risks. It has never been easier for reckless or malicious individuals to put the public in danger – one reckless drone flying over a crowded airspace could be disastrous. Until now, there have been no effective tools to control the airspace and protect people and places from these threats.
That’s where SkySafe comes in. Our goal is to help drones be a positive change in society, by improving safety, management, and coordination. We’re building the tools to let facilities properly control and protect their airspace. Our system detects, identifies, tracks, and takes action when needed. Whether it’s airports, prisons, stadiums, or critical infrastructure, our system helps to secure the area, allowing the safe operation of authorized drones and stopping dangerous ones.
Our team comes from the security research community, MIT, and the military. We love the drone space — we love flying drones and the growing opportunities that drones provide. But without proper controls in place, we risk losing it all if even one catastrophic incident occurs. We’re already past the point where drone usage can be the Wild West (and we’ve already had the Wild West shootouts)!
Regulation, education, and trust are a good place to start. They’re the foundation of an effective integration of drones into our airspace, but they’re not sufficient by themselves. They have to be backed up with the right tools for enforcement.
We’re also looking forward to contributing to the discussion about proper regulation. One key benefit of having proper enforcement tools is that it allows for more precise and better scoped regulation. If an airport, stadium, prison, or an entire city can have complete control of their airspace, with the ability to safely ground rogue drones, there’s no longer a need for blanket regulations and huge no-drone zones that are stalling growth, innovation, and new drone-based services and businesses.
We support the entire drone community. We want everyone who’s operating drones in a safe manner to be able to utilize them to their fullest potential and we’re going to do everything we can to make that future a reality.
Here at SkySafe, we’re super excited about the future of drones and the integration of drones into the airspace. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve raised seed funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. We’re excited to be working with such supportive partners who truly believe in our vision.
Lastly, we look forward to growing our team of top-tier talent. As we grow, we hope to find many more smart, capable individuals that are as excited about this new space as we are. If you’re one these, contact us!
